FEI Atlanta Awards Five Scholarships to Georgia University Students

May 12, 2008

Dr. Debby Turner and Keith Daniel, past and current Presidents of the Atlanta Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI), presented $1,000 checks to each of five accounting scholars attending Georgia universities. The FEI Scholarships were presented at a recent chapter meeting at the Buckhead Club.

Dr. Turner, a professor at Georgia Institute of Technology and immediate past President of FEI Atlanta, lead the committee to select among competing scholars, a difficult task given the high quality of resumes submitted. The scholarships were made possible through the generosity of Robert Half Management Resources, premier provider of senior-level accounting and finance professionals on a project and interim basis.

The recipients included Kristy Clabaugh of Clayton State University, Jason Blake of Georgia Institute of Technology, Alison Petlay of Kennsaw State University, Cirtis McLead of Oglethorpe University, and Shannon Chen of the University of Georgia. Their respective advisors are Professors Greg Kordecki and Maria Bullen, Professor Debby Turner, Professor Richard Clune, Professor Nancy Herring, and Professor Dan Smith.

Each year the FEI Atlanta seeks to recognize the contributions to the profession made by our educators and their students. This recognition includes the selection of outstanding students to receive scholarships from our chapter.

The award winners were selected on a competitive basis by the Academic Relations Committee of the Atlanta Chapter of FEI. Students nominated must be juniors or first-year graduate students at the time of the award. The award selection is based primarily on the student's academic achievements, but also includes consideration of involvement in campus or community service, demonstration of interest in a financial career, and professional attributes identified by the nominating faculty member. The last criteria are especially important to the selection committee, as FEI Atlanta would like to identify student scholars who will eventually become members of the community of financial executives.
