April 15, 2008 - Not quite a done deal

Well, I'm glad this part of the entire affair is finally over.

Now comes the hard part. Getting the merger through an increasingly cantankerous and paralyzed federal bureaucracy calming the nerves of two American corporate headquarter hometowns ...

And getting back to the business of serving the airline-traveling public.

You know, people like us.

Ever since he took over Delta, Richard Anderson has seemed bent on finding someone with whom to merge, despite his initial assertions to the contrary, all while his airline's quality and approval ratings have plummeted. I'm sure we'll see lots of spin over the coming weeks about how, hey, this merger is going to enable us to better serve the consumer after all.

Once upon a time, Delta was an Atlanta icon that do no wrong. But those days are long past. Now, time and time again, the airline has been forced to climb out of a quagmire of its own doing. We'll see how it emerges from this one.
