President, Anisa International
October 15, 2007
Anisa International is a company whose products you may use and not realize it.
Anisa Telwar's company makes high-quality cosmetic brushes and accessories. But up
to now, they only sold their product through spas and hotels, through other brand names like
Lancone and Bobbi Brown, and through retailers like Target.
In fact, Anisa was awarded Target's Vendor of the Year Award last year in Shanghai. Their
products are made in China. It was her executive team's strength — respected in the industry and
knowledgeable in Chinese culture — that helped her navigate the monetary, legal and regulatory
challenges of doing business there. The lessons led her to build the company's own manufacturing
plant there in 2003.
Growth has been solid and consistent since their launch in 1992. And the next step is
creating their own brand, and they had help from the Emory Business School's Marketing Strategy
Competition, an outstanding program where MBA students compete in teams for the most valuable and
viable ideas for growing a business.
Mentors are important: her mother, her father and
Inc. magazine contributor Norman Brodsky. For relaxation, Anisa is now in training to
become a kickboxing instructor.
