ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL HOWARD CHEN NAMED ONE OF BUILDING DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION MAGAZINE'S "40 UNDER 40"

January 31, 2008

Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates (TVS) is pleased to announce the selection of Howard Chen as one of the rising stars featured in Building Design + Construction magazine's 2008 "40 Under 40."  The contest, now in its third year, is featured in the January issue and honors forty up-and-comers in the design and construction industry. Chen was selected from a pool of more than 275 nominees for this year's honor.

Chen, 33, graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a B.S. and Master of Architecture.  He joined TVS in 1998 and has risen to the Associate Principal level within an unprecedented eight years. As the youngest Associate Principal, Howard exemplifies the next generation of leadership at TVS.

During his time at TVS, Chen was the project architect/ project designer during schematic phase of the Centers for Disease Control project. He also worked on the design and development of the Georgia World Congress Center Phase IV expansion for more than three years. Today, Howard can be found in the TVS international studio working on projects in China, Dubai, Libya, Lebanon, and Australia.  Currently he is the associate principal leading the design of the tallest tower (more than 85 floors) of the Dubai Towers Mixed Use project - one of the largest and most complicated projects in firm history. On this project Howard leads a team of 4 other designers and is coordinating with all other teams and consultants on the project. As the team lead, Howard interacts directly with the Client. During earlier stages of the Dubai Towers - Dubai project Howard did much of the digital imaging of the concept as it was first being developed.

As a Chinese American, raised in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States at age 10, Chen's diverse cultural background and his fluency in conversational Mandarin have allowed him to be a great human resource bridge for the firm, helping TVS' collaboration efforts in China.

"It is a great honor to be chosen for this recognition among a pool of such diversely talented individuals," says Chen.  "I am so thankful to be a part of the exciting dynamic at TVS as we continue to grow and expand into new markets.  With this growth comes new opportunities, experiences and responsibilities for designers such as myself as we strive to make our mark on the built environment."
