Business at its best - Georgia Walk for Autism

April 1, 2008

The 2008 Georgia Walk for Autism this month benefits The Marcus Institute in Georgia, one of only two such facilities in the United States, as well as Autism Speaks. The national organization is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. Locally based sponsors of the event include the Atlanta Falcons; The Coca-Cola Co.; The Home Depot; AT&T; Russell Athletic; Georgia-Pacific; Waffle House; GE; Georgia Tech; National CineMedia; Emory School of Medicine; Metro Networks; Troutman Sanders; Aaron's; Brasfield & Gorie; The Shopping Center Group; and 11 Alive.com.

World Autism Day was sanctioned by the United Nations last year.

Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities among children, affecting one in 150. Autism varies from child to child. It affects their social interaction, communication and sometimes causes unusual repetitive behaviors.

The Marcus Institute is a national leader in the early detection, early intervention, treatments and educational of children with autism.
